Tesla Powerwall with Jinko Tiger Neo
A Tesla Powerwall paired with 25 Jinko Tiger Neo 430W panels and a Solis 8KW inverter on an east-west roof, creating a 10.75KW solar array. The combination of high-efficiency Jinko panels with Tesla Powerwall storage creates an exceptional home energy system.
Full Installation Walkthrough
This Tesla Powerwall installation paired with 25 Jinko Tiger Neo 430W panels and a Solis 8KW inverter delivers a 10.75KW solar array that represents an ideal balance of generation capacity, storage capability and investment value. The homeowner was looking for a system that would make a transformative difference to their electricity bills while providing the backup security that Tesla Powerwall is renowned for.
The Jinko Tiger Neo 430W is one of the most widely installed residential solar panels in the UK, and for good reason. The panel combines high efficiency with exceptional build quality and one of the strongest manufacturer warranties in the industry. The N-type TOPCon cell technology used in the Tiger Neo range delivers superior performance in low-light conditions compared to standard P-type panels, which is a meaningful advantage in the North East where diffuse light conditions are common throughout much of the year.
The 25-panel array was installed across the main roof in a carefully planned layout that maximised coverage while maintaining the required clearance distances from roof edges, hips and the ridge line. Our design software modelled the expected generation profile for this specific roof orientation and pitch angle, and the results confirmed that this layout would deliver excellent annual yields with a strong generation profile from mid-morning through to late afternoon.
The Solis 8KW inverter provides the DC to AC conversion for the solar array. We selected the Solis platform for this project because of its excellent reputation for reliability in the UK market, its dual MPPT capability for handling different string configurations, and its seamless compatibility with the Tesla Powerwall for AC-coupled battery storage. The inverter was mounted on the garage wall alongside the Powerwall, with all components neatly installed on a dedicated backboard.
The Tesla Powerwall was installed as an AC-coupled system, meaning it charges and discharges through its own internal inverter rather than sharing the solar inverter. This is the standard configuration when pairing a Powerwall with a non-Tesla solar inverter, and it works extremely efficiently. The Powerwall monitors the energy flow at the meter point using its CT clamp and automatically absorbs any surplus solar generation that would otherwise be exported, storing it for use later in the day.
Our electricians installed the Tesla Gateway between the meter and the main consumer unit, enabling the whole-home backup functionality that distinguishes Tesla Powerwall from many competing battery products. The Gateway constantly monitors the grid connection and will seamlessly switch to battery backup within milliseconds if it detects a power outage, keeping the entire property operational without any interruption.
The installation was completed over two days. Day one focused on the roof work, with the full 25-panel array installed and wired by our experienced roof team. Day two was dedicated to the internal electrical work, including the inverter and Powerwall mounting, consumer unit modifications, Gateway installation and all the associated wiring and cable management.
The commissioning process verified every aspect of the system, from individual panel performance through the SolarEdge monitoring interface to the Powerwall backup functionality through the Tesla app. The grid failure simulation test confirmed flawless operation, with the household supply maintained uninterrupted when we disconnected the grid supply at the meter.
We configured the system for the homeowner's specific electricity tariff, setting up the charge and discharge schedule to maximise self-consumption during expensive peak periods and to take advantage of any cheap off-peak windows for topping up the battery from the grid. The Tesla app was set up on the homeowners phone and we walked them through all the features, including the real-time power flow visualisation, historical energy data and storm watch notifications.
The estimated annual generation for this 10.75KW system is approximately 9,100kWh, which combined with the 13.5kWh Tesla Powerwall storage delivers a system capable of offsetting the majority of a typical households annual electricity consumption. The homeowner can expect to see immediate reductions in their monthly electricity costs, with the most dramatic savings during the spring and summer months when generation exceeds consumption on most days.
Every Tesla Powerwall installation we complete reinforces our view that this is one of the finest residential battery products available anywhere in the world. The build quality, the monitoring app, the backup reliability and the brand reputation all contribute to a product that justifies its premium positioning in the market. When paired with high-quality Jinko Tiger Neo panels and a reliable Solis inverter, the result is an energy system that homeowners can depend on for twenty-five years and beyond.
