The grant covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV charge points (inclusive of VAT), capped at a maximum of £350 per socket and 40 sockets across all sites per applicant - for instance, if you would like to install them in 40 sites, you will have one socket available per site.

Domestic Grants in Coulby Newham.

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) is a government grant scheme that offers up to £350 towards your EV home charger purchase and installation. The grant is also commonly known as the OZEV grant, as it is issued by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.

The government has recognised that electric vehicles are vital to decarbonising the transport systems in the UK and reducing air pollution. To support the ownership of electric vehicles, the government designed the OZEV scheme so that car owners are facilitated to buy and install EV chargers, with the support of the grant and can therefore charge their vehicles at home.

The grant is available for most electric and plug-in hybrid cars, both old and new and provides a 75% contribution towards a single charge point and installation cost.

The grant is now only available to homeowners of flat properties and does not apply to homeowners of single-unit properties. The EVHS grant is also available to those who live in rented accommodation. The total grant is capped at £350.

Alps Electrical EV charger frequently asked questions.

Get all the answers to the most frequently asked questions about Alps Electrical's EV charger installation service.

The ideal charger size for the home is 7kw, which would require a 32a supply. Many customers ask if they can have a 22kw charger but this would require a 3-phase supply, which the majority of homes do not have. Commercially we regularly install 22kw chargers or a series of 7kw chargers.

This all depends upon the make and model of your vehicle and of course, the setting on the charger, as most chargers can be set for eco charge or fast charge. However, you should expect a 7kw charger to fully charge your vehicle in around 7 hours, which is ideal if you set it to charge overnight ready for use the next day.

We install a wide variety of chargers as many customers already have a specific charger in mind they want to use. However, when we are asked to suggest and provide one we always recommend the MyEnergi Zappi unit for domestic customers. This is a great-looking charger made by a long-established reputable British company that performs very well, with great connectivity and many essential functions. This is also the only charger that works seamlessly with Solar PV.

The Myenergi Zappi charger which we would recommend is the only charger on the market with the technology to work seamlessly with solar panels. If you already have solar panels and are considering an EV charger, or if you are in the early stages of considering solar panels then this is the charger to go for. The settings on the charger will allow your EV to charge directly from the solar panels meaning you can charge your car for free, and thereby increasing your return on investment for both the EV and solar installation.

Indeed there are two options to go for when purchasing an EV charger. Some brands only offer one, however, the larger brands will offer both. These are 'tethered' and 'untethered'. If there is a charging cable attached to the unit itself, this means it is a tethered unit. If the charging unit has only a socket available for you to plug your own charging cable then this is an untethered unit. The majority of customers seem to opt for the tethered unit, with the main reason being convenience. If it is raining or you are in a hurry you do not have to go into the boot of your car to locate your own cable to plug into the charge point, it is already there for you. Some people prefer the untethered look as it is a little tidier on the wall of your property due to no cables being on display.

Alps Electrical is fully OZEV-approved for both domestic & commercial customers. We can claim back up to £350 off the cost of your charger installation if you own or rent a flat, are a landlord, or own a staff or fleet car park. You can search for our OZEV-approved status using this government search facility - https://www.gov.uk/electric-vehicle-chargepoint-installers

Prices do vary between installations because of the distance from the supply to the charge point, if you have earthing in place on your gas meter and water inlet, if you have spare ways in your consumer unit, and of course, which charger you decide to purchase will determine the cost. We do provide FREE no-obligation quotations and can visit your property to carry out a site survey.
